Remember those cells are rated as...
Voltage: 5V Current: 160mA Power: 0.8W And that's proving you're getting full sunlight everyday of the year. It's the amps you need. 1. I'd do a parallel build that will give you at least 3 amps at 5v That means a minimum of 19 cells (3000 divided by 160) which is only $19 dollars. 2. I'd make one big parallel array with 30 cells and run both devices off that. Ya need the power source to have extra buffer for cloudy days, otherwise the whole idea is a waste of time. Wish I had a spare 40 watt panel and a 12v to 5v adapter here I could give ya that would sort it out without all the messing about. Sold my spare one a few months ago. I cant find that TV screen glass - I must have turfed it a few tip runs ago. I'll have another dig about tomorrow. ![]()

They only had 6 left - I bought them all

poop, only 6. I checked the rest of their shop and it
seems that's all they have for $1 per pop. For that price I was thinking of getting 30 or so myself. 9 x 160 is 1.440 aka 1.4 amps at peak sunlight performance. Well ya got ya self a cheap phone / battery charger, but at that rate running a camera and dongle raw from the sun isn't looking good. Same shop has 6v cells but the price jumps up a bit. ![]()

I've been following this thread for a while to see how you're going with the cheap solar panels.
Gotta say "you get what you pay for" is true when it comes to solar panels. Those amorphous panels are terrible, you'd be lucky if you get half the rated power from them new let alone after 6 months of exposure to sun. Would be much better off investing in a good quality polycrystalline panel that's fully water-proofed and comes with a 20+ year guarantee. It'll use half to quarter of the space as a bunch of cheap panels (better "amps per square metre") - search around and I'm sure you'll get them at a decent price. I went with some "UniSolar" brand panels (made by Canon in Mexico) 15 years ago, they still deliver above their rating and have 5 years warranty left. Sorta a cross between polymorphous & polycrystalline cells - the silicon is chemically bonded to stainless stell plate then coated with shatterproof polymer goop. They've stood upto nasty hail storms that shattereed neighbors windscreens and no visible sign of deterioration. You'll definately need some sorta battery & charger setup as even the best of panels won't continuously run anything as the sun comes & goes. (clouds etc) Best of luck with the wireless camera project! :-)

I think his main concern is the thieves stealing
any nice looking solar panels and other gear. Bit of a catch 22. The cheap stuff will have a short life, but not get nicked. While good stuff will work well, but look like candy for the taking. Camel toe isn't working and I could do without hearing it's execrable voice for six plus months. He'll scare off the mice OK, but rats, well, nature will sort that out. How many repeaters ya get out there Number 7? Four I think he said - camel toe will be in heaven bugging the shit out of four at a time with his execrable drivel. ![]()

![]() Hey 249 hows it? Thanks for your input - Cooter has hit the nail on the head - im sick of buying these cunts cars let alone a state-of-the-art, off grid mobile security system that would make NASA jealous.... The camera has SD card slot? So if it has a reliable power source and only the dongle has to run from the sun, can I get an email when the sun is back out and view pics from the SD card ? Might be good enough for what I need And as for my cheap-arse solar panels having limited life - Solar panels being affected by exposure to the sun????? who would have thought... ![]() Yes Cooter 4 repeaters - 8 from who knows where, TAB06 by Tabulam SES (not sure why they dont do a 5), 3 from Lismore and last time i was there I heard a 4 from somewhere too, and thats just on my Baofeng..... ![]() Enough to cover all of ones split personalities....... Want a job #Cameltoe???? ![]()

Hi ya guys, Vince wasnt on tonight, so thought I'd pop in here and suck some ass.
I don't like cooter but what he says above (and on CB) is true. I need some work to pay off my father (I live in his home..yes I know, I'm 49 and pathetic) Four repeaters, huh? Sounds fricking coooool m8 Any rats? Last rat I meet was taller than me and tried to fuck me (I'm only skinny) Let me think about it for a few days. I'm trying to get over an itchy yeast infection.

Quote:"So if it [camera] has a reliable power source and only the dongle has to run from the sun..." What reliable power source? ![]() SD card - the Aldi cam doesn't, but there are similar models on eBay that can but they cost more. I'm not sure you can remote view whats on the SD card. No point spending more if you have a "reliable source" for a camera. What source? ![]() Shitzzz, I just noticed camel toe snuck in. We could ask him for some tech tips, but it seems his tech knowledge isn't of value anymore.

Im just thinking of the 12v battery and solar charger with the voltage step down thingy that Uncle Chop Chop was talking bout earlier and all locked up in a box or something to power the camera 24/7
Then use my dodgy 5v panels just for the dongle - as 2 completely separate systems - being WIFI they could be near 100m apart from each other. Need to study these cams more closely to see if the memory can be accessed remotely - I reckon that would be possible or else why have SD card slot in the cam?? ![]() Im not sure the tech knowledge of the CamelToe was ever of any value..... ![]() |
